Do not keep rerunning a failed routine
A calibration failure is evidence that a prerequisite, setup, component or operating condition may be wrong. Repetition without changing anything rarely identifies the cause.
Check in a logical order
- Confirm the exact vehicle, sensor and required procedure.
- Resolve relevant power, network and system faults.
- Inspect the sensor, bracket, fasteners, glass, bumper or cover.
- Verify parts, assembly, tyre condition, ride height and alignment.
- Recheck floor, lighting, clearance, target and datum measurements.
- Confirm diagnostic software, target coverage and procedure sequence.
- For dynamic work, verify road, speed, lane, traffic and weather requirements.
Common preventable errors
Bent brackets, excessive paint or filler, incorrect glass, unapproved targets, wrong centreline, moved equipment, poor battery support and skipped prerequisites can all undermine the job. A scan-tool success message can also coexist with an unresolved physical or verification problem.
Record the failure
Save codes, messages, learned values, setup measurements and the stage where the routine stopped. Change one justified variable at a time. Escalate to technical support or refer the work when the required conditions cannot be achieved.
